Day 3 of the Wingfoil Racing World CEnsisries saw spectacular conditions. The local thermal wind, the Maloja, blew up the valley from Italy right on cue averaging 14 knots with gusts of 20. It gave us fast, powered-up racing with boards coming close and spectacular splashdowns into the icy alpine lake. Once again we saw three fleets, the women’s fleet and two men’s fleets and a total of eight races per fleet.
Day two of the Wingfoil Racing World Cup Series in Silvaplana delivered another spectacular day of competition, despite a short initial delay as racers waited for the wind to fill in. It was a chance to catch up with the new kids on the block making their World Cup Series debuts representing the America One talent programme, which aims to develop future champions in foiling sports.
Under bright alpine sunshine and with winds building from a gentle 8 knots in the morning to a punchy 21 knots by afternoon, round two of the Wingfoil World Cup Series got underway in the stunning setting of Lake Silvaplana, Switzerland.

Nestling in the Swiss Alps, Lake Silvaplana offers both breathtaking scenery and a notoriously unpredictable wind pattern that will test even the most seasoned racers.

A week punctuated by finicky winds and critical lead changes ended in 20-plus knot, oscillating offshore winds with a hardened group of 10 medal series finalists in both the women’s and men’s fleet, all hungry to make it to the podium.
After a day of no racing, the locals made the wind claim early and they were right on the money. Racing started at 2 pm after a one-hour delay, in a 14-knot offshore southerly that was in the sweet spot for wing foil racing.
After eight total races in the Dogus Marine Services Formula Wing Europeans, the men’s gold fleet is now decided, leaving a cramped leaderboard and open doors to Saturday’s medal series, while the women continued their qualifying series with equally tight racing.
