The World Sailing Equipment Rules define the terminology, measurement and equipment framework used throughout the sport and are revised every four years.

May a competitor install windows on wings that are originally designed by the manufacturer without windows, and in which competitions may they be used ?

The class rules for both the Open and the Formula Wing classes require that, from 1 May 2025 onwards, wings have windows with a minimum size of 400 cm², on each side of the wing.

For use in the Open class events, windows of the required size may be installed post production.

For use the Formula Wing class events, eligible equipment shall be of registered series production and may not be modified.
Consequently, neither wings that have been originally designed without windows, nor wings that have been post-production fitted with windows are eligible for Formula Wing competitions.

May tracking devices such as Sailmon or Vakaros be used during racing at World Cup events ?

At World Cups, the WingFoil Open class rules apply. Tracking devices are permitted if not prohibited by the Notice of Race.

How can I check if my equipment is eligible for a Formula Wing event?

Formula Wing equipment must be registered through the World Sailing Series Production Equipment Registration Scheme and appear on the relevant approved equipment list.

To be eligible for an IWSA Formula Wing event, the equipment must be included on the applicable list at least 30 days before the start of the event.

Competitors should always check the latest approved equipment list before entering or travelling to an event.

What personal safety equipment do I need for Formula Wing racing?

Competitors must comply with the current Formula Wing Class Rules, the Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions for each event.

The current class rules include requirements relating to helmets and impact vests, while additional safety or identification requirements may be specified for individual events.
